CoolStreaming - free streaming p2p Internet TV
CoolStreaming is a network for live media streaming, or you can call it a free P2P Streaming Internet TV. In principle it's similar to BitTorrent(BT).
The core operations are very simple: every node periodically exchanges data availability information with a set of partners, and retrieves unavailable data from one or more partners, or supplies available data to partners. It usually takes 15 to 20 minutes before one uploads to other users are at a rate high enough for itself to download segments in a sufficient rate. Therefore it is recommended to establish a connection as early as possible before the starting time of a desired event. The more users sharing segments there are the better stream each one of them will get.
CoolStreaming software is Freeware (no Spyware, no Adware).
Currently CoolStreaming is only offering Chinese and a few Italian TV channels, including ones with live coverage of all major European football (soccer) leagues and other sporting events.
How to use CoolStreaming
- Download the CoolStreaming software and install it.
- Run CoolStreaming. The list of available channels will appear.
Hint: The channel list also contains information about the quality this stream (Bitrate, measured in Kbps), number of users currently watching this channel (Users), and the overall quality of this stream (Quality).
The Quality measure is intended for reflecting the percentage of users who are able to watch the stream without any problem. For example, the Quality equal to 89% for a certain channel means that 89% of connected users are able to watch this channel without any problem (such as image and sound freezes).
- Double click on the TV channel in the channel list to watch it (A "V" sign should appear next to that channel in the channel list).
Note: Depending on a stream Windows Media Player or Real Player should launch itself after selecting a channel. Make sure that you have already installed the Windows Media Player and Real Player.
If a player doesn't start, you should click on the Preferences button and change the locations of players.
Usually Windows Media Player (application to open .asf streams) is installed to
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
and Real Player (application to open .rm streams) is installed to
C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe"
- Enjoy the program!
